Our Valley Facilities

Due the central position of Roman Lakes Leisure Park in Our Valley many activities are focused there and by kind permission of the owners access, parking and toilet facilities are free of charge.

Access

Vehicle access is mainly from Marple by Lakes Road. Access by Low Lea Road, Marple Bridge is also possible but not recommended unless you have a high clearance vehicle.

Both ends of the valley are accessible for horses, bikes and walkers along the bridleways on Low Lea Road, Lakes Road, Old Hall Lane  and right through to Strines. Bridleways and footpaths also cross the valley at several points.

Parking

Parking on the access roads to the valley is not permitted at any time.

Toilet Facilities

The only toilet facilities in Our Valley are at Roman Lakes Leisure Park. There are facilities in Marple and Marple Bridge but no facilities at Strines.

Food and Drink

A takeaway cafe at Roman Lakes serves hot and cold snacks and drinks. There are three local pubs close by, The Navigation by Marple Locks, the Sportsmans on Strines Road and The Fox at Brookbottom as well as several others at Marple Bridge. There is also a sit-in cafe at Marple Bridge. There is a shop at Strines and many in Marple and Marple Bridge.

Meeting & Educational Facilities

Roman Lakes has a small cabin available for meetings or lessons, Max 10 people. Please ask at the cafe for more information

Childrens Facilities

There is a small childrens play area at Roman Lakes for under 8's. A new toddlers play area is also available in Marple Memorial Park.

Friends of Our Valley exists to promote the conservation, improvement and use of the Goyt Valley between Strines and Marple Bridge for the benefit of residents, the local community and visitors to this unique area.
